gearin up for Tour de Lost Coast

Subject: movies

Tons of movies available to put on a portable hard drive

The other component, a media center is also required

Both have 12v power requirements if you read the power supply deally

Thought:
Port HD with 12v connection with Tons of movies
Media center with 12v connection to play said Tons of movies

Plug into Wilsons TV/DVD combo

Viola! Movies in the boonies (dont wanna use the laptop)

anyone done this
any comments suggestions

GOt the Western Dig Media center
it is the size of about 4 packs of cigarettes
can hold it in your hand

Pluged into Wilson with a 12v adaptor with multipl heads from Radio shack
lights up fine

1.5 terrabite drive- got it loaded up with movies
but the cradle shorted out
new one on the way

still no cradle for drive BUT
plugged in the media center w/ radioshack 12v adaptor
and 32 gig thumb drive

Sounds good to me bw, I eagerly await the electronic gurus input. My question is where do you get the Tons of movies? Every place I find to rent 'em have to be viewed within 24 hours. I don't want to buy Tons of movies cause I don't have tons of money. I spent it all on the SMB....

Portable USB hard drives are 5.5v devices. The issue you'll have is finding a 12v computer that can render the digital information and display it. Why is an inverter/laptop not a good solution?

Want to use our mounted TV vs juggling Laptop
Dont like to use the inverter (more from my non-knowlege of power draw)

The other option is an 64gig iPad or iPhone loaded with movies. Depending how you rip them you should be able to get around 60 movies on it. The iPhone is what i use There is an adapter available that will allow it to be connected to a TV While this may not be your definition of tons it may be a start.

Another plug for iPad:

1. Got iPhone with 3G connection already? Jailbreak it and you have a mobile hotspot. Now you've got Netflix on your WiFi iPad (plus any movies on your hard drive via iTunes).

2. Got an iPhone jack on the van's stereo? Now you've got "surround" sound.

3. Now all you need is a place to "mount" the iPad so you don't have to hold it.

4. And of course, all this can be powered through your standard 12v outlet in the van.

Here is the set up:

Skyworth 20 inch 12v TV/DVD combo
- think it was about $200 / this is mounted in my upper deck on swing arm

Western Digital 250 gig USB powered hard drive
- had it floating around, think now about $50

Western Digital "TV Live" Media center
- got from my computer guy i think about $100

HDMI cable and radio shack 12 adaptor

Plug in port drive with 100 movies into TV live
(have another 1.5 TB of movies to choose from)
Plug HDMI cable from TV Live to Skyworth TV
Plug TV live into 12v
I now have remote control HD quality movies

works for me
and no, Ladies, i dont want to juggle my wifes iPad and
dink with squeezing movies into it :a3:
