New Van conversion

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and looking to get information on my soon to be "Big" project build. I just purchased a 2002 E350 7.3 powerstroke that I want to convert to 4x4 with pop up top. Of Course I am like everyone else in here that likes to get in over their head and take on a big project themselves. So here is my first few questions:

1) Would like to pull the 7.3 out and have it "gone through" by someone that specializes in powerstrokes. Who are the top guys to take it to? I live in southern California but don't mind driving to find someone good.

2) Does anyone have a 4x4 conversion kit that isn't priced through the roof? I can get my own Superduty axle, but hoping to find the brackets to do it all myself.

For whatever reason, I find the search function on this forum persnickety. I've had much better luck using Google, just type in the topic you're looking for and add site:sportsmobileforum.com

For the 4x4 conversion I would recommend Chris w/ Ujoint. He does a stellar job of providing A comprehensive do-it-yourself kit or will do the conversion for you.

Or contact Quadvan in Portland OR for 4x4 conversion done by them. UJOR and ExpoVans have kits for DIY. Savings in DIY might not be quite what one expects.

There is a guy in Temecula who is doing UJOR or ExpoVans kitted 4x4 conversions. If interested PM me.

How many miles on the 7.3?

Not a fan of leaf spring kits that Ujoint offers. Was hoping to find a good coil spring kit. The 7.3 that I have has only 250,000 miles. I picked the van up for $500 but it wasn't running. The motor spins over but doesn't start, could be something simple like glow plugs or valve cover harness. I know the later model 7.3 don't have forged connecting rods or pistons. Figured might as well pull the motor and get it built right.

Yes, still selling our bracket kits. Have a new batch of parts in production now, ready around the end of the month.

MG kit

I installed the MG kit this past winter and I have to say it was very straight forward install and seemed to be very high quality. He was also very helpful with some other things concerning my build. I would not hesitate to buy another kit from him. Good Luck with your new project!

I took my 7.3 van to Ultimate Truck Performance in Oxnard for a brake master cylinder replacement. Super knowledgeable staff and I would definitely do business with them again. I don’t know if they rebuild motors, but if not I’m sure they could refer you to someone who is very good.
