Stickshifts and Safetybelts by Cake

If played in a new to you vehicle you will have to resist singing along by the second verse.

Congrats on the van

Podcasts. I get tired of music when driving a lot.. last time across the country in a van was solo from Portsmouth, NH to San Francisco, CA in 61 hours. Podcasts were key!

Podcasts - The Minimalists, Terry Gross - FreshAir NPR.
Books on CD or download - Boys in the Boat, Born to Run or anything by John Krakauer.
Have a safe and fun trip.
We did a Coast to Coast when we bought our van as well…

Get the Unabridged Audio books!!

Because of your sense of adventure...
"Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" by Alfred Lansing

for Montana and the West...
"Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West" by Stephen Ambrose

Since you are from New England...
"John Adams" by David McCullough

All of them are FANTASTIC yet true stories that are well served in the audio book format.

All this is good stuff.

For books, go for Blue Highways, can't remember the author. I posted on it here years ago and the thread took off. Search away if interested.

Last summer, as is our usual habit, we did about a 5500 mile trip to the West Coast, etc. It occurred to me on the way back across the plains that we hadn't turned on the radio once. I just kept it off to be able to say I did it. Didn't miss it at all. I listen to podcasts and audiobooks every day though. 30gb of music at least on my phone and didn't turn it on once.

William Least Heat Moon is the author of Blue Highways.

Road Fever by Tim Cahill is a great, fun read too.
