Power window issue

This morning, I tried to adjust the left rear view mirror. The mirror went outward (Left), but would not come in (right). Can adjust manually with no problem. I figure it finally stripped a gear. Up and down work fine.

Upon return home from town, the right one started to do the same thing??? WTH?

So now I'm thinking the "control"(?), button is bad.BUT, they both work going out which means that button works both directions; mirrors go outwards, so push button to the left on driver's side, but right on passenger side.

I drive it very little, but can't imagine both mirrors crapping out on the same day?
I am in Alaska and we've a VERY mild winter, if that makes any difference??? Today it's 55degrees, should be 30s.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

I manually adjusted my passenger side mirror for years thinking the mirror itself was broken. Recently, I replaced the button and now both mirrors work perfectly. I bought the button assembly from Dorman and it's not a perfect fit. Requires a little filing to fit flush in the hole.

My '05 E-350 with power mirrors had something similar only to find it was the door panel mounted selector L-R switch wiper contact not being used often enough---a few back and forth seemed to fix it at least temporarily. It's not been an issue for over a year now.

What I do is occasioinally move it between the two and "bump" the mirror motors to make sure its working.

The switch itself is fairly easy to replace but you do want to diangnose any non-functioning action to make sure the motors are indeed still working properly.

I got a replacement switch and control knob for my E250 from the junkyard for like $3 or something, and it solved mirror issues on my previous 1998 van. Worth a shot if you have a Pick-and-Pull near you (likely not in AK, though...)
