I noticed that all of my previous posts display a giant font. This is likely due to the fact that I used the [size] open and close tags to control the font size on all of my posts/responses on the previous forum software. I would like to go back and remove these tags so my legacy posts are once again legible? Even though the "I can edit my posts" notification appears to be turned on for me when logged in, I am unable to locate an Edit feature. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Probably going to have to live with the size for now. I brought it up a week ago and was told it would take a lot of work to fix it...mainly due to how many post you made that way. The programmer has been made aware of the problem and is looking for a one shot fix.

These have been resized now :)

Greetings and Happy New Year to all.

I have a Q concerning my build thread _at this link_

If my memory serves me, up to at least this past fall? I was able to edit the first post in that thread as a sort of general update to help any visitor get an overview. I visited today and didn't see the edit icon. Has there been a change? Or do I just have to much Holiday Cheer going on : )

Thanks in advance,
Thom

You should be able to edit post one now.

Ok....

I have the same question.
I am unable to EDIT original Thread created by me. I don't want to have to add corrected information at the bottom of a thread on a new post.

A site team member (moderator or administrator) can allow you to make a specific edit.

Is there a reason to restrict us from editing? I mean, every other board I'm on allows it, this forum used to allow it, and I've never noticed any issues with allowing it...

Most boards have some restrictions about this and yes, there are some good reasons. here are just a few....

  • The software that drives this board has some interesting quirks and if the first post of a thread is deleted, the entire thread is removed. This is a big deal because it means that a thread starter could remove content posted by others.
  • If a poster substantially edits a post (e.g. removing basic information) the subsequent responses may no longer make sense.
  • Editing an old post to add new information intended as an update seems like a good idea but in reality few folks will actually see the update. It turns out that folks don;t go back and reread a post they have already read looking for updates. It's better to post a new reply to that thread with an update.
  • Finally, unlimited edits leave open the opportunity for a hacked account to deface those old posts and we have seen instances where a unsecured device or computer allowed another individual to log into an account and remove, change or edit posts to include spam (think: torqued ex-wife..).

There are times when it's reasonable to edit an old post and if the edit window has expired, we are happy to help. Just let a member of the site team know what/where the post is.

Thanks for responding. I agree in not being able to delete posts, few if any forums allow that. But I disagree on the rest, we're all adults here.
