Has anyone found a good modern LED replacement for the old hella halogen lights SMB put in the aluminess bumpers? I really like the function with the combo white/red for reverse lights and brake/running lights. I've been searching all over and I can't seem to find something that A) functions the same and  actually looks good.

I've ordered a few from Amazon and subsequently returned them for various fit/function issues.

Thanks!!

I have these in my rear bumper and they are perfect. Can't comment on fitment but I would highly suggest them based on looks and lighting output

They are also what UJoint uses on their rear bumper

Thanks big_ern. Someone else on FB mentioned those. Definitely cool but I'm hoping to find something that mounts the same way in the existing opening and similar size as the current lights.

I have some SAE 4” round red-white bi-LEDs, but my Buckstop has 4” round holes so they were just drop-in for me.

I think retaining the stud-mount will be a problem for using bi-LEDs. The stud-mounts are meant for driving/fog lights. There are some red-white bi-LED driving lights available for overseas markets (not sold here though, because front-facing red lights aren’t legal), but I’m pretty sure they’d be too bright to use a rear marker or even brake light. Maybe as a rear fog light.

The closest thing I could find was a combination 3-rd brake light. They’re 6” wide so they might work?

That's not a bad thought. The width hasn't been the problem in finding, it's height to go with it. Everything is "slim" these days which is cool except when you have a 6.5x4" hole to fill.

Quick search on Amazon shows quite a few 6”x4” rectangular LED lights available. Looks like the existing rectangular lights installed by Sportsmobile have the mounting bracket sitting back a little more than the ones available through Amazon, but that just requires drilling another hole in the bracket for proper position (believe you have easy access to that mounting place from under the bumper).

Also others showcased in the Google search:

You are correct and I have found several that I like but the hang-up is I would really like to keep the current dual function of them being a reverse light and a brake/turn signal. There are many that are white/amber which I may just go with but there are very few choices that are white/red.

Thanks all for your input and ideas. I decided to go with these "chase lights" from Rough Country. They don't fit the opening perfectly like the old lights but they do everything I wanted and they don't look half bad. Performance is great. Plenty bright and I was able to wire them for running lights, brake/turn signal and reverse lights. They also have the ability of an amber strobe. I haven't set that up yet but likely will make them functional later on for fun.

I'll attach some pics/video a long with the Amazon link right here.

Looks good. I recall seeing you post on the FB group as well. Glad you found a suitable solution.

You may be able to find someone who owns a 3d printer that could fabricate a shroud to fill the void around the light for a cleaner look. I had a neighbor years ago who did bespoke projects like this for guys in the rally community. His garage had a half dozen printers, amazing what they can make a reality.

Either way, they look really sharp and modernized. Cheers,
