I've been doing some work around the Redding area and had a chance for a little time off so I headed to the coast for a few days and then up high into the Six Rivers Natl Forest off of hwy 299 and Hawkins Bar between Eureka and Redding. Here's a few photos....

Here's my campsite near Grizzly Camp

All in all the weather was soooo much cooler along the coast and up high than it's been in Redding. Thanks for taking a peek!

Nice pics...I really want to check out that Mattole beach one of these days. Ive been into the lower area but passed that section heading up the coast. Are there any spots along the beach where you could camp away from the masses?

Thanks for the comments. It was my first time to the California Coast (quite a bit more exciting than what I'm accustomed to on the Gulf Coast). I'll be working in Northern CA and Southern OR until early November so I'll for sure be heading back to experience more of it.

daveb,

I was kinda unfamiliar with the area as I was driving through Petrolia and came across Lighthouse Road which I decided to take and glad that I did. The campground was about 5 miles down the road and a couple of hundred feet from the beach. There were 14 campsites and about half of them were occupied. The gate for vehicle access to the beach was closed so I'm not sure what the deal is about getting away from the masses. Now, about a quarter mile or less from the campgrounds you'll see on your left a dirt road that veers up a pretty steep hill and leads off into the hills...that's where I went and that's where the picture was taken. I just pulled off the road and spent the night there. A county truck drove by and the guys just waved so I guess it was okay to be there...I saw no one else on that road the rest of the evening or next morning.
