Im looking at getting an OBD scan tool for my 2021 Sprinter 3.0L V-6 diesel. I dont have any issues at this time but i want to be prepared for when it does start throwing codes.

I dont want one of the cheapies but i aslo dont want to break the bank trying to setup a Xentry laptop or buying the best of the best. Im thinking a unit in the $800 to $1000 range should get a decent scanner that can reset mil lights and read codes.

Anyone have any experience with which ones are good quality for the money?

JFlo knows what he is talking about, thus I would give serious consideration to the scanner he references.

I have been using a Blue Driver scanner and have been happy with its performance. I haven't compared it to the THINKDIAG, but may do so if the future.

I documented several examples of the Blue Driver in my build thread, one such example is found on Page 38, Post 754. Fitz’ 2016 Sprinter 4x4 RB 150S Build

The Xentry clones from AliExpress take some fiddling but they do work just fine. Gotta know how computers work and how to read the tutorials, dont expect a plug in solution.

After doing a ton of reading over at the sprinter-source, I can see the justification for the yearly costs. This is closer to the Xentry than it is a basic code reader. I am going to get one just for the test functionality.
