Testing the waters… fixed High tops

What is the latest on this?
Any tops available? What styles?

We are only doing one style of top, which is a 24" high top for both the SB and EB ford van. I'll have a few pictures of the top on my van hopefully buy this coming friday. There are a few shots of the top in this thread, but not mounted on a van.

I'm interested in seeing it as well. I'm considering a Fiberine 20" aerodynamic top but hung up on the fact that I'm 5'11" and apparently It will be too short.

I went from a pop top to a fixed top and would never go back. The only drawback I can really think about is that my van went from sleeping 6 to sleeping 4. It's warmer, quieter, has more storage, blah blah. Now, the people who bought my other van LOVE the pop top and I don't think they'd trade it for anything. Hope this helps.

Any chance you could do one similar to the AdverntureWagen? SMB did one (or more?) for Jimmy Buffet, but they said it was a one off thing and the manufacturer is out of business. I'm considering (not certain yet) of switching from my PH top to a fixed top with fixed bed up top in back. This top is the ticket for that layout as far as I can tell.

HI Phil -

In the feature we may add different styles but currently only going to be offering a 24" and 14" top like the one pictured. I am having them made in a different state right now... But we will be moving the plugs to Colorado. Doing a one off top can be done but is costly and since this isn't a full time gig right now would be hard to pull off, especially since I have limited time.

Cheers
Mark

Well crap not sure why stuff is flipped maybe to the file is to big… oh well. I'll try and resize. My work schedule and life schedule has made it really tough to get my top installed. Hoping to find time soon so people can see what it looks like installed.

I was told that SMB has the adventure wagon top mold as the original owner passed away and talked to SMB a few times this year to see if they were willing to make a couple tops. They said no. They said it was to much of a pain to work with. So I ended up with the cruiser top. I love that adventure wagon top.

Looks like you are making what fiberine calls the "transit top"
Full Size Van Tops

I would think you would end up with about 76" interior with the 24" and a 66" with the 14" top, could you verify when you get yours on?
Do you have both tops at your place now?

IF I were to go this route I think an 18" would be the way to go, just enough for my 5'10" carcass to stand vertical.
That said, do you think the demand will be that great for a 5'6" interior height?

Thanks for offering this to the community.

Could be that SMB would be willing to sell the mold if they're not going to use it.

Mark,

I am so close to buying a fiberglass topper for my EB van. I have been looking at the super camper but after randomly finding this post....I think you may be the best option for me. I am based just south of you and have a few questions for you. I think the 24" may be the way to go, do you offer them with windows? What would be the process to potentially give you my money?!

Stoked!

Steve

All I've got is this for now...

I really lie the look you have there. I was thinking I didn't want a high top but since I am 6'3 I am reconsidering. I have a 1998 EWB, I am in Salt Lake so not to far away. If you want a demo model project I could drive out there if you will help with the install. We could video it for the DIY parts. Anxious to see how your pricing turns out it looks like you have a good setup.

HI Dirk -
I'll send you a PM. We are doing a pre-order right now… so might be a good time to get in. We can help for sure with the install.
Cheers
Mark

The transit top is different and has less shape to it… if you really look at my top it's a lot different, from the lines at the bottom, top and middle.

Saline - I'll be sending you a PM in a second. The cost is $1650.00 for a 24" EB and $1450.00 for a 24" SB. If you want the top shipped to you from Loveland CO then shipping charges will apply and I'd can PM this to you as well if you send me your zip code. Or you can drive down to Loveland, CO. :)

Forgot to address the 14" top, Several asked for it and since I have the plug already I can make it. But the reason for buying both the 24" and 14" plug is I have something else intended for the 14" top as a DIY kit for a later date...:p8:

Now that is a price that will get me to drive out there. Does that price incline some wood reinforcement?

Any idea when RB tops might start to be available?
