The day did get better

Not the way I expected the day to go. Two broken bolts on the new alternator caused it to fall off and spit off the belt. Its a new high output alternator that only has a two bolt mounting instead of the original three mounting bolt design. I questioned that when I first bought it but the manufacturer told me they are all that way and they have never had a problem. I probably could’ve gotten the old broken bolts out, but without new ones there was no point, besides, it was darn cold and windy on top of that mountain pass. fortunately, I was towed to a shop that allowed me to work on it myself, provided me with a warm dry place to work, new bolts and some assistance from a really nice young guy that was way better at contorting himself into the narrow space. i’m so glad this didn’t happen a few days from now when I expect to be in death Valley.

Good to hear you got it resolved. Are you coming thru San Francisco?

re 2 bolts - the factory 225A alternator has an arching brace that is specific to that factory option. Interesting.

Glad you got it resolved and it wasn’t in a worse place as you mentioned. Interesting on the bolts.

Did you stay with just the two bolts on the repair?

Wow arctictraveler -- bad luck again ! Glad you got it all sorted out and on your way again - wishing better luck com'in your way !

I remember in a previous post a year or two back that you clamped off a heater hose to lower cab temp/vents during the summer when driving - which hose was that and did that work ? Thanks -

Interesting, i wasn't aware of a factory 225A option. I need to look into that since im going to replace the current one when i get home. I still have the original bracket and bolt. Thanks…

I dont think it matters which hose since either one stops the flow through the heater core. No doubt i clamped off the hose that is easiest to get to. I was concerned that that coolant flow was needed to cool some area of the head or something but i didnt experience any issues, and yes it made a noticeable difference in the outlet temp. I got the idea after seeing the Coldwave conversion parts.

Yup, Im at the beginning of a trip and didnt want to spend time looking for a replacement. I bought two additional bolts as spares, but hope the repair will last till i get home when i can get a proper replacement.

Roger that, makes perfect sense. I am sure you will monitor it now you know it is a potential issue.

Which headlights are those? They look like the same ones I run, but my dome highbeams are on the top and the daytime running lights / directionals are on the bottom.

Looks like perhaps these? How do you like them? Do you have directionals and daytime running lights hooked up?

I dont remember but they are some random ones from Amazon. I did have Scots HID projector set up, but as the bulbs age, they get dimmer and i thought id try the LED’s. There ok, but the cut off isnt as sharp and they dont reach as far. The HIDs are better and ill go back to them one of these days. No daytime running lights, i just leave the LEDS on all the time.
