Hi everyone,

At the meet&greet Duneattack and I discussed setting up a trip in October in Southern California. Duneattack is Dave and Pam Jackson. For those of you who went on the Death Valley trip in January, they are the couple that pulled the trailer and Pam discussed points of interest on the CB. I am the guy with the nice white SMB :a1: .

We have been discussing a few ideas that can take place Friday through Sunday. You are all welcome to join us. You can come for the three days or just one or two if you like (or even longer).

One idea is a trip that Dave has done before and is in fact there today:

  • Lone Pine to Darwin to Cerro Gordo (visit abandon mines and a ghost town).
Another idea is something that I have been wanting to do before it gets too cold:

  • Big Bear (San Bernardino Mountains) backroad trails, dispersed camping.

A third idea tossed around by myriad and me quite awhile back:
  • The Mojave Road. I don't know much about when to go or how much time needed. Myriad?

We thought we would throw this out there and see if anyone is interested in joining us that weekend.

We are also open to other suggestions on where to go in Southern/Central California.

Feel free to post ideas and let me know if you are interested in coming on this informal weekend trip. All forum members are welcomed.

Steve
I would be into the Lone Pine to Darwin to Cerro Gordo (visit abandon mines and a ghost town).
Or the Big Bear (San Bernardino Mountains) backroad trails, dispersed camping.
I would like to save the Mojave Road for the winter time, I am really looking forward to doing this one over three or four days.

Bummer, we will be getting back from our Pacific NW trip that Sunday, so we obviously can't make it. Have a great time no matter where you end up. Hopefully I can make the next one.

Steve, just a bit late for me. I'll be in eastern California shooting the fall colors around Mono and the Owens Valley starting on Oct 3.

You guys have fun, we are out for this one. Doing some mods to the rig and preparing for out next overland trip in November. Have fun and take pics wherever you go!

hmmm... I'm going to AZ that week, and driving back to CA on the 10th. I'll have to look at my schedule and see if it can be stretched a few days.

Ok, so glad a couple of you are considering coming on this trip.

For those of you that cannot make it, duneattack and I as well as a few others including myriad and daveb have talked about other trips. How about we shoot for a second trip in November or December?

For the Oct 10-12 trip we have confirmed so far:

1. me (cellularsteve)
2. Dave (duneattack)
3. Craig (calclimber)

Maybe:
1. lobo_q3a
2. Buji

I hope you guys can make it.

So we can nail down the location this week. I will call duneattack in the next couple days since he is traveling right now.

Craig, lobo-q3a, Buji any preference on trip choice?

It don't look like I'm gonna be able to make it. I have to be back on Monday the 13th for work, and after being gone the whole week before I'm gonna need at least sunday to recoup. Things may change at the last minute for me, so I'll keep an ear tuned to this channel.

Steve
I'm leaning towards Big Bear, I haven't been there in many years. We've got a lot of months ahead of us to hit the desert.

Craig,
call me or PM me and we can go over the details. I am awaiting a call from Dave&Pam.

Thought I posted last night but must have got lost in cyberspace.

We got back yesterday from a great trip to Cerro Gordo and Death Valley area.

Dave&Pam, Craig&Cindy, Kristin&I had a wonderful trip. Thanks to Dave&Pam for the history lessons and tour of the Cerro Gordo ghost town as well as Darwin and the Saline Valley area. It was very clear, but cold. It snowed as we were standing around the campfire.

I will put together a trip report and post photos.
