Velogeo in Denver

Velogeo will be in Denver on Friday. I'm waiting to hear when he has time to get together and where.

Well Peter stopped by this morning and we did a little show and tell with the vans. I think the most notable thing was that his 11K SMB 4x4 was 28" from hub-center to flare and mine is only 27". Since his was on 35s and mine 33s it looked a lot bigger. Spring sag in the front is the only thing I can attribute the difference to.

As always it was awesome to meet another SMBer and talk vans, camping, and travelling.

Jage, it was good meeting you. I appreciate you letting me stop by to play show and tell. Honestly, I was a little nervous. Last time I met someone off the internet I ended up getting married.

I'm sorry it wasn't longer, and that I didn't get to meet anyone else. We really were trying to grind through the miles. We were back in Seattle the following night. We've got a fair number of friends and family down your way. Add to that all the great stuff between Seattle and Denver and I know we'll be back. Hopefully soon.

Our trip itself was uneventful. We hit major snow our first night out, in the mountains in eastern Montana, and we got a parking ticket while sleeping at a Wal-mart in Pennsylvania. Other than that it was just a lot of driving with a little visiting thrown in here and there. 14 days, 19 states, 7,000 miles. It's fun to have done it. I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a way to see the country -- mind bogglingly beautiful as it is -- it was too much driving and not enough other stuff.

We did see elk, deer, antelope, pheasant, grouse, eagles and hawks. We even saw a beaver. I've never seen beaver road kill before. Odd.

I thought they were overnighter friendly ??

Wal-mart is but the local gov'ment often isn't. I've often ignored local ordinances about overnight parking at Wal-marts and never had a problem. Knock on wood. How much is the ticket for?

We learned to ask inside after that. There was at least one more where it wasn't posted even though overnight parking wasn't allowed.

In the case of Carlisle PA it struck me as very much a money making venture for the city. If the goal was actually to discourage overnighting it would have been posted, especially considering the city owns the lot, apparently.

Carlisle was the first place where I saw more than one or two RVs spending the night. There were at least a couple dozen. everywhere is it was just a few random cars, trucks and semi's.
