On the way to the Far North, the journey made VivaLaVida cross Alberta. Here are some pictures taken along the way in last June.

1. Arriving near some ocher springs in Kootenay National Park.

4. An elk met during a hike.

5. So photographed Moraine Lake at sunset, still partially frozen.

8. Another encounter during a long hike : my first meet with a black bear into the wild. :a3: I saw him getting out of the forest to a meadow. He was about 300 yards away. He saw me, then continued to eat some grass and flowers. I decided to sit down and wait and after about half an hour, he was only 25 feet away, still eating. What a great meet!

Ahem, Kootenay NP is in BC.

:a1:
Oups, you're certainly right. I guessed these ocher springs were already in Alberta but I'm likely wrong. :b1:

25 ft away from the bear and you were snapping pictures?!
Yes :a1: If you're sure he saw you when you was far enough, then let him come closer if he want (never try to get yourself closer to him) and keep permanently an eye on him to see if his attitude is changing, I have never been in any dangerous situation. It's not difficult to see if your presence disturb him and in that case, I would go far from him immediately.
I trust my instinct, I'm encountering animals since I'm a kid. I encountered many animals considered as dangerous, like black and grizzly bears in Alaska, or lions in Africa and never had any trouble. Some people say I'm a bit crazzy but when I'm not comfortable, I just go away...

That seem to always work - until it doesn't.
