Warning down in Baja

For what it is worth....

I work for a large multinational manufacturing company that has facilities in Mexico, along the border and in the interior. The company in the last two weeks has issued new rules about travel into Mexico and on the US side of the border. I am amazed at the new restrictions about what transportation can and cannot be used and when and where employees can be and where they can and cannot stay.

They are obviously very worried.

There is a very good reason to be concerned about travel in Baja right now, especially the border towns. The drug cartels are making a strong and blatant push to prove their power. There have been two shootouts this week in Tijuana involving the cartels and the police/military. On Monday, they assinated a ranking police officer. There have been several similar incidents over the last couple months.

Unfortunately, I see things getting worse before they ever get better.

Damn, and here I sit on a beach in Baja. I'm almost afraid to head north across the border. Maybe just have to stay down here??

Not making light of the concerns of others and the border problems, but we have never had any hassles on the east side and have many friends up and down this coast that are enjoying all that Baja has to offer. Just be careful on where you go and all should be well. Just as in the States, there are some areas that you just shouldn't venture into. :b8:

I will agree driving in Mexico is not as safe as driving in the US for many reasons however, while reading this keep in mind that the individuals found were believed to be involved in drug trafficking and that thousands of Americans involved in drug trafficking are killed in our country every year it just doesn't make the news.

Here is a novel idea for the candidates. Lets take just a fraction of the BILLIONS of $$$ we are spending killing people in the Middle East and use it to help our neighbors to the South. Oh I forgot that wouldn't create "uncertanty" in the oil markets which allows the oil companies to make BILLIONS in profits. :a7: Or am I just being cynical
