What to do with a totaled (in flood) Sprinter SMB with pop top?

If couch/benches are not with mold, etc., maybe those could be repurposed on FB Marketplace ? But as mentioned either donate all or tow to "storage - and part it out in your spare time - but that time no one is gonna pay you for -

Based on the title situation you relayed, the most efficient would be to swap the parts to a different chassis

I have no doubt this would sell quick on Marketplace for $5k-$10k. Start it high since you can always drop your price.

In any event, I would have a bulletproof plan to have it gone by Oct 8. Storage fees will kill you. Have you been on the Sprinter Forum? Might find some interest there but you are in fire sale mode and in a part of the country where there is little knowledge/interest around these vans.

It is near impossible to find people to work on a functioning Sprinter, and only certain dealers really have the expertise to know Sprinters properly.

You need to have this gone and move on with your life. You do not have the skill set, location, money nor time to deal with this. Cut it lose.

Great advice.

You're in grad school and even if you had the skillset, space, and tools to tackle this job, you don't have the time and even if you did, IMO, it's not worth it. It will always be a flooded van and that would weigh on my mind, especially when camping in the backcountry... wondering what electrical gremlin could surface and leave me stranded. Graduate, level up your career, and buy another SMB.

I agree with this. Someone will take it for the salvageable kit and the poptop.
I'd list for $10k OBO and take whatever you can get.

Put it on FB marketplace. It will sell much quicker than you think.

There is always someone that wants a project.

I can see a lot of interest in the cabinets, and if in good shape would command a decent price for any DIYer (doesn’t want to tackle such an extensive job, or doesn’t have the skills and/or tools) but can’t really tell from your pictures if they have been compromised by the water…oddly I would have expected a lot of swelling and separation but the pic’s don’t really show this.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I put it up on FB marketplace for $10k and found a cash buyer the same day - they just picked it up. I think they plan on tinkering with it as a family project.

I was also impressed that none of the cabinets seemed to suffer, but I guess the water didn't linger very long at all. The only bit that got warped seemed to be one portion of the floor, at the lowest point.

Another point of interest: while I was digging around in my old photos from right after the flood, I found the one below. Apparently both my JNC and my tire pump were in the van and got caught up in the flood. I had no memory of this - the flood was a crazy time - but nowadays both are working just fine and I have used both since then. Possibly wasn't the best idea, but like I said, I had totally forgotten that they got flooded.

As others have said, huge burden off your back. Sorry for your loss.
Just out of curiosity what was the insurance co. offer to you vs what they gave you keeping it?
Now give your career your all.

You'll be amazed at how many people see it and click through on FB Marketplace. Put it on there!

This is very true. I have done hundreds and hundreds of transactions on Craigslist and Marketplace....mostly parting out motorcycles but also including complete vehicles and then literally anything and everything I just don't want anymore. It will absolutely blow your mind what people will buy if you present it properly...I tell you that there is a buyer for ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. Is it worth your time, that's for you to decide.

Congrats on the quick sale. I was about to post "eBay!" but Facebook MP can obviously work too. I'm close to a similar situation with my E350 "What Whale". I haven't been able to do anything with it and it really needs to go. For better or worse, I live in a pretty blue collar area where having a non-runner or three on one's property is not uncommon.
