In the spirit of and b/c of "Rionapo"...what is the story behind your SMB/4x4van name? and it is supposed to have 'name' on the end of the thread....ahhh technology...and my fingers...

Sportsmobeebs; ...my daughter (now 30) was nicknamed 'beebs' when she was born (maybe from baby, who knows now) most everything in our world we love has the name 'beebs' attached to it...my wife and I call each other beebs (which in print is weird b/c we are both Chris/Kris and should have different nicknames you'd think), all vehicles have a form of beebs attached to it, and many of our friends have beers attached to their names...so Sportsmobeebs just fit...and Sporty for short even more sense...

Some people conjure other wierdness, I'm

Chester

Not the most original. When we purchased our van we had just moved from the country into an uppity neighborhood in the middle of town. We had a nice lifted Ford Excursion when we moved in. About a week later I had located a 4x4 converted EB E350 Cargo van. We left on a Friday morning with the Excursion and came home Friday evening about 5:30 driving through the neighborhood at peak time when everyone was getting home. ALL THE NEIGHBORS were mean mugging the van (it had full tinted glass so you couldn't see us driving it). Unbeknownst to us as we were new to the neighborhood. There was a rather large issue with people houses and cars getting broken into. So naturally the cargo van cruising the neighborhood at 5:30 on a Friday night became suspect.

The name started with creeper van, then evolved into Chester the.... well you get it. Then our 4 year old twins caught wind of the name Chester and it stuck. Silly story but that's how the name came about.

Le Moose.

I'm no stranger to large vehicles. In my 20s, I drove 10 wheelers. I had to back it into the yard each night about 75 yards, and hit a diagonal parking spot. But that was mumble mumble years ago. So, when I got my long wheelbase I knew it was bigger than my Astro, but didn't think it was as big as it is. Driving it home, the word "Moose" was said a few times. It stuck.

My old '87 is named Gertie after Gertie the Dinosaur, Windsor McCay's early animation (1914).

I am an animation professor. I work mostly with 3D now, but I have traditional and 2D experience. I'd eventually like to start a mobile animation program to travel to small mountain towns where some schools only have like 6 students and teach/inspire kids to look into technology based fields. Animation is a great way to get the young'uns hooked. So someday if I ever get Gertie stable, we'll give it a go.

Bigly - because it's massive, immense

The first meaning, says Stamper, was to mean “with great force or violently or strongly.”

The second meaning, which has been more popular in recent centuries, means “boastfully, haughtily or proudly.”

Jiminy as in Jiminy cricket because of the 7.3 diesel and the noise it makes.

My current boring white Transit van is named Vanilla. I can't remember why.

We haven't completely settled on a name yet....

In trying to come up with a personalized license plate, we ended up going with HIALT2D because the van sits so high and being 6'-7" tall (before I started shrinking with age) I would get asked "How's the air up there?" all the time.

When we first got the van we took it down to the beach. As we were parking it, a guy who looked and talked exactly like Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High walked up and said "Dude.....That thing could eat a Prius." So, we sometimes call it Prius Eater.

And finally, we have had quite a number of people say something like "Wow, that thing is a BEAST" the first time they see it.

So, we need to decide on one of the three.

El Dueño

When I was growing up my parents would take us out to a Mexican restaurant and, like most restaurants, you could get combo plates with your choice of items. While most restaurants topped out at three item combos this particular restaurant offered a four item option. That one was called El Dueño on the menu.

Even though we were young my brother and I would always seem to order El Dueño and after filling up on chips and salsa plus that huge dinner we would go home in absolute pain from eating too much. So, in short, El Dueño is the four item combo. Excessive and you'll pay for it later but so much fun.

"Thirsty"......

....named for its (par-for-the-SMB-course) hearty appetite for fuel.

(*Been considering also "Thurston," in honor of the character in the old Hi & Lois comic strip....who was named both "Thirsty" and "Thurston" --- he was known for his similar endless appetite for a "liquid diet," haha :) )

In either case --- be it adventure van or overzealous drinking buddy --- it's usually well worth the bar tab (or gasoline bill) to keep a friend like Thirsty well-watered. Let the good times roll!

Wife was completely against a new "toy" after we sold the Boat. After considering many options, I narrowed my interest to an RV. Then discovered the Sportsmobile - Had to have one!!!.
After a couple tantrums and a constant barrage of promises of "adventure with unlimited options" she reluctantly said she would consider the idea... since this man is from mars, I took that as "permission".
Once we were back on speaking terms, she suggested the name "AWOL" - Adventure without limitation. I thought it was great, WE had a name for OUR Van!
NOTE: She absolutely loves the Van!

Nut Wagon. Because I have 5 kids 11 and under and because I also use it to haul granola, and nuts for my business. The meaning is literal or figurative depending on the cargo.

Yolanda....big booty white girl..kinda getto.

I finally did get the framework arms so the whole thing goes up...home made sportsmobile..

Lots of great stories here---as good as the thread about our SMB forum user names.

All my vans are work only, not a bit of camping utility so have always refrained from adding a crafty name. Money pit POS-looking ghetto ride is an apt description though. :)
