I decided to make the conversion to the Late Model 2008 and up Dynatrac Prorock 60 Brakes.
Several times I had wished I had more pedal when just trying to slow down for a turnoff and a few when it was almost panic. I like BRAKES. Sometimes even more than POWER. I never felt there was adequate brakes on this 10,000 lb vehicle and add to that the 35" Tires. I looked into the Brakeman Solutions during the build of the 07 but @$4000 I choose to save it for a later. Then the 08's came with Bigger Brakes. I thought that this could be the solution with simple standard Ford parts for ease in replacement When something goes South.
I had Dynatrac build me a List of the Parts necessary for the conversion.
1) New Steering Knuckles
2) New Ball Joints ( I'm glad I did the original ones only 34k miles were shot.
3) New Hubs
4) New Bearings ( I could have used the old ones but opted for New)
5) New Calipers
6) New Rotors
7) Tone Rings
8) Wheel Studs
9) Spanner Wrench ( to get the Axle nuts loose)
10) New Brake Lines
Total came to about $2800 w/freight Much Cheaper than a MINOR Accident.
I was in No Hurry to change over and it took a few days of checking it twice.
The real wait was having Brake Lines Fabed Up with the correct ends. SMB says they use an extention but since I had different Calipers than the 08's I just had some Stainless Lines made. DOT to boot. After doing the conversion It could easily be done in One Day if you have all the tools and parts. I did have to get an 1 5/16" wrench for the lower Ball Joint Nut.
The Results.
Nice Brakes The pedal feels like it should. It is still a 5 Ton Truck but is MUCH MUCH Nicer. I'm having a little trouble uploading some images and don't have too many as I have a hard time touching my camera with GREASEY Hands.
Here are the steps if I remember.
I am assuming the obvious.
1) Remove Front Wheels
2) Unbolt Caliper Brackets ( Have a LARGE Breaker Bar, These babies are Glued in) and Hang
Caliper aside
3) Remove Warn Hubs
4) Unbolt Axle Nuts Spanner Required
5) Remove Rotor and Hub Assembly
6) Remove Spindle Assembly
7) Slide Axle out Carefully
8) Disconnect Tie Rod
9) Loosen Ball Joints and Remove Knuckle Assembly
Reverse procedure for reassembly.
Attach Brake line and Bleed Brakes.
Original Brake Assembly at the start.
Axle Tube Assembly with knuckles and axles removed.
New Brake Assembly Installed
New Caliper Assembly showing different location of Brake Line Attachment.
Brake lines were fabed up by Crown Performance and are stainless DOT with the correct ends. Not Shown. I had to do a small modification to get them to mount but all came out nice.
The abs sensor is different than the 08's but will attach on the old spindle and the outboard slinger is of a different stlye but the original one will work.
Hope this helps and if anyone needs me to get the parts for them from Dynatrac I would be happy to and it would help keep my relationship with Dynatrac.
