Re: Turn on my lights!

Chrysler does not have the correct hardware or software. It is very unlikely, knowing all the money they owe Daimler that they will ever get the software or training. This issue is just one of several that happened between MB and Chrysler and Freightliner. Some of it was caused by problems in owner's manual localization and some by the inadequate training and tools given the dealers. In any event, Sprinter owner's have been down the path of complaining, etc. and have come to recognize that Dodge is unable, even if they were willing, to solve all the issues.

But, the encouraging news is that MB dealers (select ones) will be servicing Sprinters just like they do everywhere else in the world starting in January. It is like that they will be able to engage our turning lights as they do in England.

Regards,

Keith

The turning or cornering lights come on when you are turning a corner at a slow speed to assist you in seeing what you are turning into. I remember some Cadillacs and other cars had them in the past.

Keith

Re: Turn on my lights!

Keith,
I checked with Dodge in Sacramento and was told they couldn't activate them in the US as they are illegal. Do you know anything about this?

Yes, your dealer is mistaken. Laws vary from state to state but most allow them.

Here is the California code:
25107. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two cornering lamps designed and of sufficient intensity for the purpose of revealing objects only in the direction of turn while the vehicle is turning or while the turn signal lamps are operating to signal an intention to turn. The lamps shall be designed so that no glaring light is projected into the eyes of an approaching driver.

Amended Ch. 1313, Stats. 1965. Effective September 17, 1965.

Cornering lights are/were standard on many USA produced cars like Cadillac, Oldsmobiles. They are also available for add-on from such light makers as Hella.

The truth is your dealer doesn't know how to activate them. Wait until the list of MB dealers comes out and then take it to them.

Regards,

Keith

Re: Turn on my lights!

Example of Cornering Light

From Wikipedia regarding the Tucker:
Many components and features of the car were innovative and far ahead of its time. The most recognizable feature of the Tucker '48, a directional third headlight, known as the "Cyclops Eye", would turn on at steering angles of greater than 10 degrees to light the car's path around corners. Interestingly, at the time 17 states had laws against cars having more than two headlights.Tucker fabricated a cover for the cyclops center light for use in these states.

Re: Turn on my lights!

Wish I had that much chrome on my sprinter!! And that was real chrome not stainless steel or aluminum.

Keith
