Not Another Awning Bracket Thread!

Well, yes and no...

My 2005 has the original SMB-mounted brackets for the Fiamma awning and there is a small crack at the middle bracket. I emailed SMB Fresno to see if they had any suggested fix and haven't heard back. I've looked at the past threads and seen the plates, modified brackets, etc., but it's not really a big thing for me - I don't go off-road and no evidence of leaks, I'd just like to know if there's a somewhat easy fix.

Which leads me to my second question. How are the bracket bolts secured to the side of the van? I'm in the process of preparing my PH top for a coat of bedliner, and it would be easier to do if I could just drop the awning by undoing a few bolts. However, before I loosen anything up, I'd like to know how those bolts work.

Thanks for your input.

You can reach the front bracket bolt behind the passenger door pillar. The others just bolt into body. The front one is the only difficult one. I don't see why you could not get someone to weld the crack and be good to go. I pulled mine off and repainted because of rust. No problems.

I eliminate the problem of cracks in an other way. I built a bracket which is fixed with 2 screws to the roof (drip moulding) and also take the adhesive "sikaflex 252" ... leber.html
to fix it at the body.
works perfect!

hera a pic while construction (no glue, no paint)
