Vehicles vs. ungulates: no fun.
My husband and (sleeping in the front seat) nine year old daughter rounded a curve when a buck jumped in their path at dawn near Flathead Lake, Montana. The truck ended upside down in a stream, his left arm was flung outside the truck, ending up pinned between the roof and the stream bed, water rising, he nearly drowned upside down. The daughter climbed out of the truck to flag down motorists who called the volunteer fire department. Jaws of life, helicopters, hypothermia, hospital, but no serious injuries.
One dead deer, one totaled pick-up.
One incredibly close call.
