Re: Ford 6 liter - not what you think

I may not think about it like others do, but to me I think there is a good percentage of "get what you really want" in it. Because all engines/vehicles will have their "things" and various expenses, and it's less annoying to spend money on them if it's the one you really wanted.

I wouldn't assume someone should get a diesel if they are going to be towing or hauling, but that's just because I've done a lot of towing with my V-10 (and before that with a 5.4). I understand that diesels have more "grunt," and I suppose there are some cases where they are needed/far superior, but for most uses (including general towing) I would guess either would work fine (but I may be wrong).

I'm sensitive to noise/odor and so I didn't want a diesel "in my lap" (i.e. in the van doghouse). On the other hand, driving a friend's 7.3 pickup for a couple of days, I could see where one might be the opposite and love the diesel "Here I am, boss of the world" sound. I thought it was fun for a day, but wouldn't want it all the time (whereas my buddy who owns the truck just loves it 24/7). So I think that comes back to get whichever one you really like, unless you have a mission that totally precludes one or the other regardless of what you might prefer (but I imagine many/most missions would actually be fine with either).

Well put.

I might have spun this thread into something I didn't want, but it seems like the question was answered and I hope this doesn't turn into another "gas vs diesel" thread...there are enough of those.

Dave,

I appreciate the spin. Wanted to say that we have our answer and there is no need to continue, from our point of view.

Thanks again to all of you who contributed.

Re: Ford 6 liter - not what you think

I found the Subaru demographic interesting. It seems like 50% of the vehicles in Flagstaff, AZ are Subarus. The rest are pickup trucks. Most of them Fords.
