Off to Yosemite

After Ford replaced the bed plate gasket I've been itching to get out with the van. I spent the last few weekend around Yosemite checking out the bloom and the higher country snow. Yesterday I headed up to check out a heavy storm that was rolling through the park. The foothills are green and the flowers are starting to peak.

I didn't have a clue how the day would go.

What was it someone said...it's the adventure? So on the positive side:
Going home I got some of the best MPG on the back of the tow truck.
Met someone new.
Watched a great movie.
Had a great home dinner.
But my favorite way of looking at it is, maybe something worse would have happened.

BTW I lost my coolant. I tested out my AAA tow insurance and they did a great job.

Re: Off to Yosemite

Oh man, Dave.
Glad you are looking at the bright side.
Hopefully it is just a hose and an easy fix.

Re: Off to Yosemite

No fun on the back of a tow truck.

Hopefully and easy fix, and nobody got hurt, so that's good.

Good luck Dave,

Mike

Nice Pics Dave, even the last one on the tow truck. Man Dave, we had a chance to pick up a 6.0 last week and sort of glad that I held off. Don't know if the problem is related to the 6.0, hopefully its not. Good luck.

Re: Off to Yosemite

Heater hose popped off. Ford just pulled the motor...of course they said "we had nothing to do with that"...yea right. Now they claim the water pump is leaking.

One thing to mention:
When the water in the block is low, the temp gauge will read normal. After putting water back into the radiator the temp gauge rose to above norm temps but cooled down quickly. The fan kicked up and stayed on which told me something was wrong. I filled the rad back up and it happened all over again. Because it was raining heavy, it was difficult to see how much fluid I was loosing. Adding water was a never ending struggle so I just shut down and called for a tow.

Sorry to hear about the snafu Dave.

I presume the hose came off where it attaches to the radiator?

I often worry about losing a coolant hose where the hose attaches to my flat plate heat exchanger. That area is tucked away pretty good, but it is yet another vulnerable spot where a rock or some other road hazard could rip one of the hoses. Given how seldom I want/need hot water, I'm considering removing the flat plate altogether.......

Re: Off to Yosemite

I think the hose to the heater core. I probably could have made a fix if I would have pulled the dog house...I don't know. I probably should carry hose clamp pliars. I do carry a connector to bypass the flat plate but those hoses are easy to access. Anyway I hope to make it back up there this weekend...the bloom should be going big time by now as well as the waterfalls.
