Ohhhh yes I am. Especially with all of the new snow here in Cali. I love driving when snowing and CHP just flags you along when riding on the beast.

Don't know yet if I will do the home build or back with SMB. Also a possibility with SMB Tx?

How are you set up for internet access when working on the road? That's the barrier that stands between me and having my "home office" in my van several weeks each year.

I can find free WiFi hotspots in urban areas, but for undeveloped/rural areas, I use my Verizon cellphone thethered to my computer. Unfortunately at about half the places I'd like to camp, there's no signal. I found a great BLM campground on the Rio Grande just south of Taos...no signal. There's a wonderful NSF campground about 10 miles out of Santa Fe towards the Ski Bowl...no signal. And of course Big Bend NP has no signal. Neither does Malaquite Beach at Aransas National Seashore.

We did get wifi at the Chisos restaurant up topsides a couple weeks ago. You have to be right at the restaurant.

On Internet Connectivity....

For most places have smart phones, and an Air-Card for out laptop. We also have a cellular antenna to hook up to the Air-card to enhance the signal. We are waiting for the equipment to be improved and become cheaper to be able to share the air-card connectivity between multiple laptops.

....but for those spots where there is no service, like Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.... and other out of the way places... we have a satellite internet system. We do not carry this with us all the time. We bought used equipment so that we could turn our service off and on month by month with contract.

Air cards have antenna ports? Ah, that would make an aircard much better than my (antenna port-less) Motorola cellphone. The only advantage that I can see to the cellphone tether approach is that on Verizon, I only pay for the days that I use the data connection -- about $2/day. But the reception is dodgy even in the best of places.

Satellite is the way I'd like to go eventually -- presently my employer's VPN doesn't work with satellite (or so the IT department claims.) Where did you find used equipment? That sounds like the best way to keep satellite affordable.

We have two air-cards and both have antenna ports.

The used equipment is available all over the place. We bought a complete set of upgraded used equipment from a supplier in CO; we wanted to make sure we got the older and lighter weight dish as well.

Expense is all relative.. ...but I would not say it is cheap. Like with the SMB you get the equipment that you want and that fits your budget. The service is a out $50/month, But you turn it off and on as you need it.
