Another cool VW sighting, plus cool teardrop

Someone mentioned the Westy, so check this out. He's from Santa Barbara and was camped with me at KCL in Carrizo:



The big air scoops are cuz he installed a Mazda rotary back there. Also disk brakes, and bigger rims.

And check the cool tear drop. No fenders; made of marine plywood finished with linseed oil. And I especially loved the window; you can see it on the right side. It's a sheet of polycarbonate, and it bends out for air. Pull in the little catch and it goes flat and is waterproof. Very trick. Pretty much all wood. He made it as a prototype but never got it into production. Too bad.

pretty cool setup, and ive never heard of a wankel in a vw. so props for originality

it the bus setup like a pickup more or less with living quarters in the trailer?

Yeah, sorta the VW version of a cutaway van; like a pickup bed in the back, sleeping etc in the teardrop. Sounded great, BTW.

Here's a nice VW Doka 4wd I saw at Overland Expo last weekend. The turbo diesel whistle sound was a bit annoying...
