I agree with you Jage. Long periods of being off shouldn't be a problem. It's the constant off and on that i think hurts them.

Side note.. we also left our ARB Freezer Fridge running 24/7. Never a problem. Same type of components for Engel, Norcold and ARB. All made for vehicle use.

I usually keep mine on during early spring, late fall and winter. When it's hot, provided I'm not planning a trip, I turn it off and prop the door open. But now I just talked to my air conditioner buddy and he claims that you should let it run all year and cranking it up from off in the summer is the worst thing I can do. Something about causing super head pressure. His words " like loading your little red wagon with a chord of wood instead of just a few logs". I asked about cycling because my van sits in the sun and he said don't worry about it and leave it set where you normally do. This kind of spun me and would really like to hear from the company who builds them. He also said always try to start it under AC not DC and keep it plugged into shore power as much as possible. Wow.
Dave.

You see, most blokes will be cooling at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One colder."

"Why don’t you just make 10 colder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little cooler?"

"These go to 11."

Glad to see a few people appreciate the genius of Spinal Tap.

I read that when Marshall Amps developed an amp with a volume knob that went to 20, they actually brought in the lead guitarist from Spinal Tap as a guest for the unveiling.

I'm with Jage.
The fridge is off until prior to being stocked for a trip.

Mine is on 24/7. The fridge is always stocked with beer and water. We take it out often enough, that its just easier to keep it on. For the past month tho, my House Battery is pretty much dead, so its been off with the door open.
