I've suffered from timing out on the forum since joining in 2012. Figured it was just me. I've just used the 90's computing practice of copying every few minutes to save my work, hit the submit reply, and when punted out of the fourm re-log in and paste the final draft. It has bit me a few times as I've forgot to save and had to re type a long post. Again figured it was just me.

It's happened to me several times as well. I do what Eric does above if it's a long post, copy it ever so often or at least copy before I hit send in case it times out.

Thanks for the replies,
I'll give that a try.
Is there a difference in using "quick reply" as opposed to "reply"?

No difference between the two BUT you may be logged out when trying to click on the full reply editor because I think this issue you have is being caused by cookies being purged as you change pages.

We use cookies to keep you logged in at page changes. Some security schemes purge these as you navigate around the site and so everytime you click on something you get logged out. There are two things to try:

1. tick the 'remember me' box as you are logging in.
2. Specifically allow cookie exchange with the site - (likely a browser setting)

When this has happened, going back a page on chrome has sometimes at least allowed me to recover the message text and then cut and paste it somewhere.

I do feel like this has happened a lot less more recently.

It might be helpful if we knew exactly how much time we have. It has done this to me twice, once while writing(starting) my intro thread, and once editing my Garage. At least in the Garage, it somehow saved half of my info.

I am a member in way too many forums (20,+/-) and while I've run into this before, this seems shorter than others.

This same problem has happened to me several times when I guess that I got a bit too wordy making a detailed response to a post. I have tried to remember to use ShuttlePilot Eric’s ‘90s trick of saving a copy before hitting the post button, but sometimes I forget until the microsecond after I hit the “submit reply” button
It is very frustrating and more than once I have given up in disgust and not bothered to recreate my lost post. It doesn’t seem to happen if I start my reply with reference to a “quote” from another member, but that may just be a coincidence. I don’t understand why the program can’t retain what you have written, while redirecting you to log in again,.. using my Mac, the “redirect” takes me to a blank screen after I “sign back in”. I wish this problem could be fixed, it has rarely happened to me on any other forum.
