For locking the bed in the seat position, you can probably use the Reimo/Westfalia seat latch:

You can see how it installs on this rock-n-roll bed here:

The seat could be attach to the frame by a latch. I did think very much about that. It should be strong enough to don't fold at the wrong time.

When it's in the position bed, no latch is needed but a support will be necessary to support the weight at the front of the bed.

Great product...
That is exactly what I need. But I have too many bad experiences with European sellers. Does someone have any product similar here in america?

Nice mock up and the design looks great. I am working a bed system also with a similar hinge but was not considering the angles and brackets options but now I am. Will stay tune to watch your progress.

Today I made a pull latch like Reimo with what I had on my hand. I install it on the mock up but not exactly where I want to install it. You have to imagine!

I still have some adjustment to do but work well.

I'd stalled on figuring out my sofa bed. I really like what you're doing here's thanks for sharing. I'd love to know some dimensions if you're willing to give away secrets.

IMO you can't go wrong with 1/4 round or square tubing. Heavy and expensive but more or less guaranteed not to deform in a 30mph and under crash (could be up to 50mph outside the van depending on how much it deforms and where it's hit.)

Stuff gets weird at 60MPH. A sudden catastrophic stop from 60 to 0 will produce 20Gs of force and liquefy organs. 80mph into a bridge or a head on can produce this kind of force. It can't be modeled IMO, it must be crash tested.

But.... at that point it's kind luck if you survive anyway. Bikers can be thrown at twice that speed and walk away, all depends on where you land.

IMO 1/4 steel layers or tubes should cover you for the forseeable.

Not a lawyer. Not an engineer. You choose, you build, you own it.

Nice thinking Maricard.

I had about the same when planning the build of VivaLaVida's sofa. that was my drawing:

In day setting, you can open the sitting to access under it.
I finaly went with four hydraulic pistons which allow to raise a standard folding sofa... So I added a lot of space under the rear plateforme bed which is about 10 inches higher than in an usual SMB 50 floor plan.

I'm happy to know that I'm not alone.

For those who want to do a sofa bed like mine. I'm sharing with you my work.
