It's mostly labor. For 20 yards of fabric, 20 yards of foam backing, respirator mask, and 1 gallon of fabric glue, I've spent $507. I'll still need to buy plywood, a paint gun (~$30), and fasteners, but I'll be surprised if the walls and headliner cost more than $1000 in materials. I think VS charges about double your quote for walls and ceiling, but they must not be charging enough since they have an 18 month wait list.

Again, I'm not knocking VS. I think they both do good work. I had VH do an auxiliary battery system for me with a Maxx Fan install and some other things and they did it for less than VS quoted me. Like all things automotive, I believe labor is the bulk of the cost.
I will add that the interior of my van was done at VS by the previous owner. I have the original receipt for the work. The insulation used behind the paneling is nothing more than some 1/4 inch closed cell foam that just bounces free between the paneling and the metal wall. I've seen the way they insulate at VH and it's much more than that. So maybe what you were quoted by VH included some pretty hefty insulation and work behind the paneling?

RandallDee -
It was a very traumatic event, I pretty much wake up every morning sweating wondering how I'm going to afford a van haus interior...obviously I'm still not over it if I am bringing it back up on this thread ha ha
I wish I was quoted for everything, but I clarified I only wanted the walls and ceiling and I could do the rest and they said that painful amount. I guess that's what you get when you want something custom, their work sure does look good.

This will be my next big project so I am excited to see how you go about doing it so I can learn!

With nothing in the van being straight, it is a royal pain in the ass to get it to look good.

I believe VS starts at 4 or 5K for that. But the price list is for 144 sprinters too.

Sounds like you're on your way! A suggestion for the plywood...my guy uses sheets called door skins...I believe it's birch. Most hardware stores should have it. Weight is always a consideration and this is light yet plenty strong and flexible enough to curve with the walls.
