Re: generator and gas can compartment.

I used a Yamaha portable generator and just used a Rubbermaid tub to hold it, since it tended to reek a bit, and was often dirty. Would hold it easily.

Don't really like the idea of having gas inside, but maybe that's irrational. Especially since there was gas in the gennie. I don't really know what a dedicated gas compartment would be like; if I was worried about it I'd have a tank installed like the toy haulers have got. But you'd need to be careful about smog and DOT rules.

sportsmobile actually installs a dedicated generator /gas compartment. it on their site with their portable generator info. it's only for carrying-NOT running

Inside? I'd never really want do that but I'll admit I've carried a Honda 1000 inside from job to job. I made a rear bumper box that can hold either a 5 gal propane tank, jerry cans of fuel, or a 2Kw generator. I'm not sure about DOT laws. Probably should have stickers on the box but never have done it. While moving in altitude I had fuel puke out of the cap of the Honda. My bumper box is vented but I've worried more about propane than diesel. Gasoline might be another story but not much considering leaking fuel around any gas can is a problem.

Re: generator and gas can compartment.

I don't have one, but have thought of adding a compartment to my van if/when I get a generator. From the pics I've seen, it's just a sealed box vented to the outside, somewhat like a battery box would be. Would be pretty easy to install.

I'm thinking the outside one just a little lower on the same page would be best for me.

Re: generator and gas can compartment.

There is just something about carrying a large can of fuel (gasoline or propane) inside that doesn't settle with me. I'd think you'd be able to make some kind of box sized to the generator and a fuel can for the rear bumper. If you have a walk thru, a receiver could be mounted off to one side. A heavy duty bearing mount could even be incorporated to swing the box if its necessary. Pull it off at home. Also I've seen members who use a receiver mounted hitch box on the front.

Dave some one who has posted pictures on this site has one. I saw it the other day while doing various searches.

the problem is i can't seem to find it again.

He had a sprinter van. it was on his driveway and the Honda was on the driveway running. he then showed a picture of his sheet metal cabinet he keeps it in.

wish i could find it

sportsmobile is liability shy about everything-yet this is ok with them.
