How tall is too tall?
I am shopping for my first SMB. My friend has a 2002 PH with Quigley 4x4 and says he can't enter most parking garages because of the height of his vehicle. It is not lifted any more than when he got it from Sportsmobile. He says that I might as well get a Voyager top since the PH can't pull into most parking garages because the vehicle is too tall. His rig doesn't look any taller than my F-250 4x4 and I have 6" to spare in any garage. Anyone else have trouble getting into parking structures, etc???
If I can get into parking garages, I'd go with the PH.
Thanks

McBeast is too tall for most parking garages. We knew this going in. We have not found this to be a problem yet, in the 8 months we have had it. We just don't plan on parking in any parking structures.
Ours is a 2008 Ford wit SMB 4WD and 35in tires.
Our cellular antenna mounted on a crossbar on top, reaches to 10 feet off the ground.
...but it is easy to work on most anything on the underside of the van!

I have an 2006 Ford RB with the SMB 4x4 conversion and 33" tires and I asked them *several* times how tall it was going to be... since I have an 8 foot tall garage door opening. The van clears the top of the door frame by maybe 2 inches. I don't go anywhere that says it is under 8'6" clearance, just to be safe in case they are wrong by a little bit. Most drive through food joints have been labeled as 9' tall.

Of course most SMB's won't fit in parking garages. I can't imagine what you were thinking.

Just depends on the parking garage, although i can't really think of the last time i was in one. My 2004 with the quigley 4x4, 32" tires, and the penthouse comes in at right around 7'6" at the highest point.

When we got our 4x4 SMB we said goodbye to drive thrus (fast food is bad for you anyway), parking garages, and "compact" parking spaces. However, we havent had any problems parking it around regular parking spaces any where we've gone, so far.
Our SMB 4x4 with 35" BFG's and Aluminess roof rack is about 9' tall from the highest point. One thing we love about it, is its height. When we are traveling down the highways, we can see the truckers.

My 2WD Voyager roof SMB measures 8'6".
There's almost no parking garages I'll fit into but it's never been an issue to find a spot outside the parking garage at malls, etc.

My 4x4 SMB with voyager top, 32" tires and solar panels is 9'6" so I defintely have to be careful what I pull under. Especially with the solar panels sticking up above the top.
