My feedback is that wrapping the up-pipes does help the turbo spool up. But you can also address turbo lag with aftermarket tuning. I mainly did it to reduce underhood heat and wrapping the...

I picked up the MBRP Y-pipe with the improved flex bellows and had everything ceramic coated and then I wrapped all the pipes with same DEI titanium exhaust wrap. The coating is the air cure...

Wow, 100' to wrap 4 feet of downpipe? I think that maybe with a little bit less overlap I could get by with 50'. Either way, yours sure came out nice! :d5:

All righty then, I'm going to wrap the downpipe. It looks like you used 2" wrap and a 50% overlap or so? How many feet did it take to wrap the downpipe?

Using this calculator it appears I could...

Do you notice any difference in how long it takes to cool down the turbo after a hard pull? That would really be the main downside to me. The rest, like water/rust or weakened welds, appears to be...

If you have a 6.0 I don't think a 4" downpipe will fit. At least not without modification.

If you also wrapped the downpipe I'm curious if you noticed a difference in turbo cool-down?

Bump for a heat report. Because of an unrelated repair I'm replacing the Y pipe as well as doing some other mods. What's the gut feeling on heat wrap and ceramic coat on the turbo y-pipe and down...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

I replied in your thread but I had issues with my DCpower alternator with the wire that the alternator uses to read the voltage it's putting out.

Did the Sinister line up and bolt back on ok? ...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

Ketcham, did you replace the bellows on the Y-pipe? And is the ceramic coating from a spray can or did you have it powder-coated?

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

My understanding is that by containing the heat it helps the turbo to spool. The ceramic coating helps keep under hood temps down. Wrapping the downpipe might be the more important performance mod...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

Yeah, I know but the PO installed it. It's pretty common on the big trucks to mount it on the downpipe but I agree. I thought it might have just been laziness and not wanting to deal with any metal...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

Thinking about this some more and it appears it's really two different issues. Getting rid of excess engine heat versus interior heat. I suspect wrapping the pipe helps with limiting heat to the...

I hadn't heard of this mod before now but it looks like you saved yourself $700 for your efforts. Well-played.

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

The tune is worth it for the better shift points on the tranny as well. If your watching EOT you know when it's getting hot. Seems like that's somewhat of a good proxy for how hot the turbo might...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

I'm curious what your heat numbers are getting to prior to the mod? Killing the kitty lowered my EGTs some 200F but I realize you can't get away with that in CA.

Normal operation for me with an...

Re: If you can't handle the heat (Part II) ...

Cool mod. So, is a ceramic coater sort of like a powder-coater. I presume this isn't a spray can type dealio.
