The problem with running out of fuel may be unique to the IH/Ford engine. I believe the fuel is needed to lubricate the injectors, and running out of fuel will cause injector failures.

Has anyone ever gotten 800 miles on a 46G tank?

I get reasonably good mileage - averaged 16.5mpg for 70,000 miles - but no way could I go 800 miles on a tank unless it was all downhill.
