My wife and I do most of our traveling in the spring and fall when the kids are back in school
. Looking for something to do in Michigan before our fall color tour we decided to do a Leelanau Peninsula winery tour. Lots of wineries up there and we had to figure out what ones we wanted to focus on. Found the 2014 Michigan Winery Competition results and thought that would be a good starting point.
Our tour of ten wineries will start at four western Michigan wineries and then we will head north to the Leelanau Peninsula area for six more. Planning a leisurely 7-8 day trip.
All 50 states make wine. Michigan is in the top 10 tier and Rieslings seems to be its strong point. That is good because the only white we really like are Rieslings and sweet Rieslings.
Our trip will be focused on the gold and double gold winners of the 2014 Michigan computation.
Attached is the list of Michigan wineries that we want to visit, their winning wines and 2013 Streets and Trips map of their locations(*).
