Quick trip to Bishop area last week. Originally planned the last minute trip to test the Triton On Demand Water Heater at altitude. I was hoping to catch a little color changing at the same time but the locals told me I missed most of it the week before.
So I snapped a few pics and set out to test the water heater. As mentioned in another thread I had and EcoTemp that did not work above 5000 feet or so and even below that it was intermitent.
First night I camped at Intake II up Bishop Creek Canyon which was in the 8500 range. Next morning went up to 9200 feet at the top of the canyon and took a perfect shower.
On the way out I planned to stop at Horseshoe Meadows at 10,000 feet for the final test but decided to grab a beer at Bishop Creek Canyon Lodge first.
On the way back home decided to take a trip up to the Bristle Cone Pine Forest in the White Mountains. Took the main road up and in retrospect should have taken the Silver Pass dirt road up out of Bishop. Next time. Great area to explore up there. I was short on time so just took a few pics and headed down the mountain via Silver Pass. Very steep but fun road to take.
Nice trip to my favorite areas, Brent. Apparently the locals were wrong. I was up from Bishop to Mono last weekend and photo conditions were great. Proof:

We spent this past week (got home yesterday) in the Mammoth area too. Mid-week clouds and high winds on Wednesday were frustrating but the colors were perfect!

Like many others, we were in the Bishop-Bridgeport area Sat-Tues. When we go to the Bristlecone NF, our preferred method is to take 395 South to 168 at the north end of Big Pine. We go right past the road to the park and head into Green Valley. Take the dirt road up the back side of the Whites, longer, prettier and more gradual than Silver Canyon to the top. It drops you off on the ridge right across from the Silver Canyon "road." Have fun in the Bristlecones, then head down Silver Canyon, Keeping an open eye for the Big Horn Sheep that are usually near the road, as the road follows the water. Tons of fun.
