K&N intake for 5.4L gas
Had trouble finding anything on here about it. I was searching the k&n website and found one that would fit my van. Does anyone have experience with it? Would I notice a difference? Is it worth the $350 and would I need aftermarket exhaust to really notice or help the intake?? Please and thank you for your input.

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas
I would stick with the stock air filter. The paper ones are cheap enough and give better filtering than a K&N filter. And, you don't have to clean the paper one and re-oil it, just replace it.

Just an FYI but that intake will not fit a 5.4L. It is for the V10. I keep checking with them every year because I have wanted one. No go yet.
Cheers

One other note, They let more air in, but let a lot more sound out if that matters to you.

K&N intake for 5.4L gas
I think it's hype. I recently put in a Specter cleanable/oilable high flow filter, but I paid less than $50 for it on Amazon. I feel that with my 5-star tune I'm getting about all I'm going to out of the 5.4.
I've bought lots of K&N intakes and filters for lots of vehicles over the years and never felt like anything was doing me a damn bit of good, in increased power or mpg.
Just my opinion, don't mean to sound negative but I think they are way overpriced.

K&N intake for 5.4L gas
Cool. Well if it's really not worth it or won't fit then that is the answer I was looking for. I don't mind noise. I have had exhaust on all of my cars except the SMB and my wife's Subaru. Anyone think exhaust would do anything other than more noise? And what about both cold air and exhaust? Besides being +-$700 would they work together well?

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas
The V8 and V10 use the same intake.
But.... The V8 is not airflow limited. So it won't make any difference.
A good intake on the V10 is good for about 30 HP. I went with AFE because it ditches the biggest restriction, which is the 180-snake bend pre-filter. I believe K&N retains this.

The V8 does respond very well to a cat-back exhaust. Behind that I would say programming is your next best bet. Even with an exhaust setup, I don't think you will approach the limits of the stock air cleaner setup on the V8.

carringb, Can you share what intake that AFE make will fit our vans? A while back I looked at their intakes for a replacement with out any luck, wound up going with a stock replacement.

I have the oiled media, not the dry media. I researched the difference a long time ago, and decided on the oiled version, I thin because it cleans better. Intake duct has stayed 100% dust free since install. (Could not say that about K&N filter I took out). However, the MAF sensor requires more frequent cleaning now. (~5 minute job).
