Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

The latest thing I've tried is a new fuse for circuit 22, which is the always on for radio and instruments. Replaced fuse, set time and presets on Sony and then drove for almost an hour. Parked and...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Using the wiring harness that came with the Sony. This connects to the Ford wiring harness connector via a connector that was used by the SMB installer. Don't know if it's a 3rd party connector or a...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

I'll try to clarify things a bit. I removed the old Pioneer unit installed at SMB West. I'm using the wiring connector that was used on Pioneer, the Pioneer had it's wiring harness connected to this...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Have a voltmeter and that's what I've been using, with the exception of the bulb test to see if power ever dropped out. When testing, if I remember correctly, all my grounding of the voltmeter has...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

How long? While driving? How long after shutting down the van and closing the doors?

OK, so alternate theory- could it be the ground wire for the radio?[/quote]

Well over an hour with the...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Into the original harness I'm using the harness that SMB installed with the original VAIC N1. All my testing has been through the yellow wire which matches up to the red/white on the Ford connector....

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Well, I'm as puzzled as ever. Tried the bulb test and the bulb stayed on. As soon as I round up a fuse I'll pop that in and see what effect it has.

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Testing with a bulb as we speak. I'll try a fuse depending on what happens.

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Just checked everything again. Fuse for always on (red/white) is good and there is definitely power to where I'm connecting to the new stereo.

The switch in the back for van/house works normally...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

New stereo should be good. I tested it by pulling from the dash, attached it directly to a 12V battery with ground and always on power. Temporarily connected ACC and changed some settings and...

Re: Replacement Stereo Power Woes

Thanks for the replies. I definitely have always on power on the new unit connected to the red/white on the Ford harness. Something must have been done to the Ford harness beyond my range of vision...

Replacement Stereo Power Woes

To make a long story short, the Pioneer AVIC N1 (or whatever the model) that was installed new with our six year old van recently died (hated the thing so glad to see it die.) I bought a Sony to...

Re: House battery has died...now starter battery

That may be true for a normal radio but we have the Pioneer model with navi that was supposedly the hot ticket five years ago. There is no way that have ever found to turn this radio off. If there...

Re: House battery has died...now starter battery

I sure don't think so. It would be hard to miss as the radio would be playing despite the ignition being off. Possible I suppose, but I'm thinking not. Would make for an easy diagnosis but then...

Hi all,

Got an electrical gremlin that is loose in our van. I've been all through the electrical section of the forum and while I still don't have a clue about what is wrong, I have come to the...

Supposedly you can wrap a chain around the frame and axle so that as the van is lifted by the Hi-Lift the suspension will not be able to extend, thereby greatly reducing the amount of lift needed to...

That's why I was thinking about the L shaped bar that would come out of the receiver and go out to the side of the van. This would allow for lifting only one side. I'm just not sure about the...

Squeaky Suspension

Hi All,

Our 2 1/2 half year old van has suddenly developed some serious
squeaks. These appear to come from the rear suspension and can be
heard both in the van and outside whenever someone in...

Hi-Lift Jack Usage With Hitch Receiver

Hi Everyone,

I've wondered if a person could have an L shaped bar fabricated that
could go in either the front or rear receiver that could be rotated
for either right or left side usage with a...
