I have found it pretty easy to telescope out, sometimes it requires a sharp tug to get it going, but not brute force. There are rubber...

I just don't like putting on chains. But I do a lot of off roading as well, something some might not care for so I do understand your point. I think the Status symbol thing applies far more to SUV...

That is as tight as it will "reasonably" go, which is exactly the same as the passenger side seat belt in my van.

You're right, I should have clarified, the nut isn't tightened all the way in the photo (which has been removed). I realize that loctite won't be effective if the threads don't penetrate the nut...
