You have never told us exactly what went wrong with you rear axle. Was it axle bearings, carrier or pinion bearings or worn gears...?

I'm curious what the failure was.

Find a local wrecking yard and purchase a D60 FF form a wrecked van and have it installed - shouldn't cost much in Bozeman and you can get it regeared and rebuilt when you get home.
