Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

The Blackstone universal average for iron is 21. Also I am convinced I got almost no filtering on this 5000 mile sample. That is with the reversed lines and the redesigned filters with an effective...

My iron was 31 at 17K miles, 24 at 26K miles and now 15 at 33K miles. Last is with 5k on oil others with 7.5K.

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

I would agree that those results indicated a full oil change. (Silicon, Iron, Vis and TBN especially). Do you think that you had any reverse filtering. The new anti-drain valves were really effective...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Thanks for the PM and additional info Jim.

I got my analysis results back from Blackstone. I had explained the possibility that I got only minimal filtering for the 5000 miles on the oil. I have...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

I think everyone here understands that they need to change filters and swap the lines so I'm not sure what you are referring to here.

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Unfortunately that is not a good solution for SMB 4x4 systems. Under extreme front suspension compression (passenger back wheel off the ground) the driveshaft U-Joint will hit and damage the OE...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

At least the people who remove the valve still get oil filtering. If the full flow ever clogs up the bypass will start filtering more. This is still a thousand times better than the low / no flow...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Agreed, but given that Jim has been an Amsoil rep for years, and has direct access to the senior-most techs at Amsoil, to the best of my knowledge, he's the most qualified person so far to make a...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Jeffrey,

Since you changed the filters (are you using a Donaldson?) and removed the restrictor, next time you run the engine for 15 minutes or more, can you check to see if both filters are warm?...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Think of a two parallel tubes drilled in a flat block of aluminum. The machining inside the circular filter gasket mating surface exposes part of the inlet tube to the outside ring of holes of...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

I had started another thread last Saturday (AMSOil Restrictor Valve Removal) about the restrictor valve as I felt the decision to keep or remove it is a distinct topic from the reverse flow issue. A...

So far I have no responce from SMB about the restrictor, only about the lines which was an E-Mail from them on how to make the swap. That part is done. My BP filter now runs very warm but not hot....

Yes, but I've had other filters installed where I definitely had flow (hot filters). After I put these on in June I never checked it. The fact that I potentially have had no filtering for 4500 miles...

Re: Amsoil Restrictor Device

I would like to start with a warning that for some unknown period of time I have not been getting any circulation through my bypass system. You should check yours if you have not corrected the hose...

Re: Amsoil Restrictor Device

Could you provide a few line of instructions on how to do this. Are they behind the Allen head plugs?
Thanks.

Pat, are you saying the filter housing block is incorrect? NO

From what I've seen the filter housing block with arrows is correct. The adaptor block that SMB makes is the same as the AMSOIL block....

I installed the SMB / AMSOil bypass system myself in July 2005 at 10K miles when the front drive shaft u-joint crushed the stock filter & adapter on an extreme compression. (It didn't leak till it...
