I used a large uni-bit (conical bit). It took care of that bracket no problem. It pretty much slotted the bracket which it drilled the hole out, so it was a good fit for the new mirror.

Trimming a pin is not necessary. I just drilled 2 new holes, and enlarged the existing 2 that I could use, and it bolted right up.

I put them on my 2000. I used a conical drill bit ant added 2 holes/door, and enlarged the 2 existing holes that could be re-used.
