Winches
So there are a number of threads that mention winches and some that talk about the brands and models used but none that gather that info...
What model winch do you have?
What year and model SMB do you have
How is the winch mounted?
Need any mods to mount?
Have you ever had to use it?
Are you happy with the winch? any issues?

Re: Winches
OOh ooh I'm the first one here to put my 3 cents in.
I couldn't pass up a deal on a Mile Marker 12k winch for 550 delivered from ebay. My last winch was a Warn, which held up well. I will be building my new bumper next week around the new winch.
For me the winch is more peace of mind. I tend to go farther and feel much better about it when I have an escape plan.
Tom.

Re: Winches
I've got the Warn PowerPlant 12,000. It fits right in the Aluminess bumper (most winches will). I've used the winch part a half dozen times (got a lot of stupid friends) and the air compressor all the time. The compressor is the main reason I bought it and it REALLY puts out the air. Expensive, but well worth it in my humble opinion. If it ever quits, I will order another one the same day.

Re: Winches
Unfortunatly that is no longer completely true as the PowerPlant does not fit the Aluminess bumper in 08+ vans.
I have a 12K milemarker in my Jeep, slow but useful, and used to run a Warn HS9500 in my other Jeep and loved it, but it stalled on a single line pulls of a full sized rig buried in mud once. If I ever get around to it the HS9500 will probably go in the van. I'd rather have the lighter front end, and double snatch blocks for when I need more strength.
I wouldn't turn down a PowerPlant as I need OBA too. Maybe someone bought one for an 09 that doesn't need it anymore?

Re: Winches
SO what is used in 08+ Ford vans?
Does anyone with an 08 Ford and Aluminess front bumper also have a winch?

Re: Winches
I have an '08 with an Aluminess bumper. I have a Warn 12,000# winch (M-12,000?) and Spectra (or whatever it is) winchline. I also replaced the fairlead rollers with Delrin.
Winchline and rollers from www.winchline.com or Viking offroad (same very nice guy!)

Re: Winches
Sky,
Does that winch fit in the Aluminess without modifications?

Re: Winches
Anything that doesn't stick up over the bumper should fit the 08 bumper. The grille is supposed to overhang the winch area enough to interfere with the PowerPlant... Of course I don't have an 08 handy to check it out on.

Re: Winches
Warn M12000
We have a 2003 year van/2004 year build.
Mounted in the Aluminess bumper.
Yes we've used it.
Happy, but wish that SMB would of stepped up to the m15000

Re: Winches
You have to mount an M15000 feet first (actually I think there are feet on the face) but it's not exactly a bolt in. Jeff (MyriadMyriad) managed to get one in with a plate to mount the front feet, and wound up ditching it because of the weight.
Personally I'm usually all about overkill- I've got a 12K on my TJ after all, but on the van I'm going with the lighter 9.5 and putting the new winch money into a winch rope instead.
