Rear Quarter Window Storage (Gullwing?)

Hello,

Has anyone come across a storage option for the rear quarter window on an Extended Body Passenger? I'd love to replace the glass on mine with a panel that opens from the outside. Similar to the gullwing windows they install on 4runners

I'd personally prefer a complete insert for storage that goes to the depth of the interior window trim rather than just an opening into the back of the van, but either could be really useful.

Thanks for any thoughts.

It's never been made for a Ford E-series and probably never will be. They don't make these vans anymore. Stuff like this is only going to come to the most popular and very current vehicle market. Jeeps, 4runners, etc.

Also, I believe that I can speak for a majority of van owners in saying that the interior space on the other side is more precious. That's why people buy vans, generally, for indoor storage.

Neat idea but not cheap to produce.

I recall a thread years ago (maybe 2018 or so) where this came up in conversation - there actually was a specialized outfit that dealt with equipping Service Vans that had a side window for an e-350 that did pop out like the one you pictured. A member actually included either the name of the company and/or a link. I did pull it up and viewed their pictures. BUT to Eric’s point, it made no sense for me unless I had something specifically planned to actually access from that location. I’d too would prefer to preserve the space for interior use.
You can try a search, but it was a side topic that came up in discussion, so can’t help with locating it.

EDIT: the original topic may have had something to do with ‘side window blanks’ that had been made to replace rear passenger window glass.

Thanks for the tip. My kitchen set up usually goes right beneath this window. I have my Aluminess box that swings to that side loaded with most of it. Table is beneath the window. It’d be nice to have just one more storage option for the small stuff I’m always grabbing for. The only interior space that would be compromised would be the 3 inches of window trim in the rear quarter window. Doesn’t seem like a big loss to me since we sleep north/south in ours. The ability to reach through back there would be really nice too. Shoes, swim trunks and flashlights always seem to end up in that corner anyways.

Here is a link to a guy that built a van out with these.

Here is a SMBForum post discussing the topic briefly:

Looks like it was a Chevy Option for cargo work vans in the past.

Correct Ben, it was. It was a really neat option too, but very rare.

IIRC you could open them with the key fob.
