Van Surgery and Rebuild

So I decided to go all in with my rusty 2002 Quigley e-350. Not a financially brilliant move but nobody ever accused me of being the sharpest tool in the shed.

The plan thus far is to power wash clean and then paint the underside with por15, classis saver or other similar product. We will also be cutting off the bottom foot or so of the body and rebuilding it.

Since everything will get rebuilt anyway I'll get the chance to do a bunch of custom rocker panel work and hopefully make the old goat better than new. Here is the list of current ideas:

1. Build in custom rock crusher type panels with one off lines.
2. Recess all exposed plugs.
3. Fabricate a custom burley recessed propane door.
4. Cut and open up fenders to fit bigger tires without adding more lift.
5. Linex the whole damn thing so I can happily bash into trees like i do right now.

I would love other thoughts and ideas since this will be a pretty big job and I want to try and not miss anything.

This is the shop I'll be working with. Rtech Fabrications - Builder of Custom Chevy Trucks

Awesome. It will be great to see the process and hopefully some before and after pictures. I have nothing in regards to ideas really but my thoughts are no bashing into trees after your finished with the van rebuild Oh maybe a move bumper since you'll have Rtech doing some welding might as well add a bumper to give more clearance to trimmed out fenders. Good luck with the project!

The owner told me he doesn't really want to work on a Ford but he will make an exception for this project. Once I told him I wanted to do some custom stuff and not just bring it back to stock he started getting excited. My job is pretty small compared to what they have going on at the moment. He just got three new 120k orders last week. We walked around the shop and looked at the builds they have in progress and I was super impressed with the build quality.

Depending on cost I might have him build a bumper.

It also depends what VW will be giving us for our recalled TDI.

The Tank is a bit scary. Custom wrap around bumper is in now in the works since there is no body panel to block it.

Wouldn't it be easier to find a decent body at a junkyard and swap it?
