New Wheels & Tires

Well I just got some new boots for my wheelchair van and I thought I would share. I got a set of Ultra Wheel 195 Crusher wheels that are 18 x 8.5. They have a +12 mm offset and are rated for 3250 lbs. I wraped them in LT275/70R18 Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial tires. They are 33.4" tall, are E rated to 80 psi, their weight capacity is 3640 lbs. Best of all is that they fit inside of my sliding door! I really lke the tread pattern. The road noise is very minimal. Much less then Toyo Open Country MTs IMO. They also track very well,k no noticeable walking rhat I can detect.

Now the van looks like it should! I can't belive the number of compliments I have gotten since I put them on last week. It's AWESOME!!!

Re: New Wheels & Tires

I like the tread pattern a lot. How do the Mickey Thompson's compare in price to the Toyo's?

Re: New Wheels & Tires

I'll be wanting to see how they wear. A buddy has some on his PU and claims they have lasted twice as long as the Toyo's.

From what I have heard is that the Toyo's are soft and bun off quickly. I know one person that swore by Toyo MT's even though he would burn through a set every 27 - 35000 miles. That was untill he tried a set of the baja MTZ's and has 32000 with 75% or more tread left. The shop that I got mine from say that they are their best selling tires as well as what they recommend. Another thing about them is that they don't pack up with mud like the Toyo's do.

I also took a tip from a post of carringb's in that I am using balancing beads instead of stick-on weights. So far I really like them. No chance of loosing weights with the added benefit of constantly re-balancing the tire even if it has mud stuck in the wheel.
