Re: Beginning Ham Radio

Well I made the jump to HF (High Frequency) radio. Got my "Extra Amateur" license. Bought an Icom 7000 + High Sierra screwdriver antenna. My first contact from the SMB was Santa Rosa to Pahrump Nevada. This makes me no longer dependent upon 2 meter repeaters.

Nice radio and antenna.. Does that replace the agin Icom 706mkIIg?
It's alot $$$$ more but looks like it's the ultimate with the nicer display and also that external display option.
Will it do transmit in the CB band (discrete) like some of the 706mkIIG unlocked do?

I don't think it is meant as direct 1 to 1 replacement, but rather a bridge between the 706 and a base station which is exactly what I was looking for. More options than you need for mobile operation, but enough when used as a base.

I don't know about the CB modification. On that rare occurrence when I need one, I can pull a Midland 1001 ($50) out that I keep stowed away.
