46 Gal Transferflow Diesel fuel tank

A question for all the diesel SMB owners out there that have a 46 gallon Transferflow fuel tank.....

What is the most volume you have ever put into the tank in a single visit to the pump WITHOUT having run it completey to where the van would not move?

38.6 Gallons.

But, I never fill it all the way. I just look at it as a 40 Gallon tank and don't try to squeeze the last couple of gallons in.

43 gallons. I hate going that low, but was on my way to Baja and I wanted to cross the border (going south) where the diesel was $2.08/gallon.

47ish. That's down to sputtering and filling it until you can see the diesel in the neck. I don't have an exact number because a gallon or so was burned driving to a different gas station.

If I don't stand at the pump and trickle it in I get around 38 from near the bottom until the handle clicks off.

Usually I fill it until the pump turns off a second time because of the dollar amount.

Before leaving for the Dunes trip I got Diesel at $3.98/gallon. I was so stoked to get it under $4, then I though how sorry are things when under $4 is a great price! Unfortunately it looks like it didn't keep going down.

$3.49/gallon in Oxnard CA if paying cash and don't mind a no-name gas station. $3.85 in Oxnard at a local Mobil station. Still most places are just over $4/gallon.

I just paid $3.59/gal at a Shell station in Santa Clara. With 5% off for using my Shell CC, that's $3.41. I never thought I would see diesel that cheap again.

Last June the cheapest I found was $4.59 in Wyoming.

The reason I am asking this question is because of the occurance we had last weekend...

I always try to squeeze as much fuel into the tank as I can. On Saturday we had filled up in Boulder (actually GunBarrel) before the game, and on the trip home on Sunday, after crossing Colorado and Oklahoma, and getting into the Texas Panhandle, we were looking for a place to refuel. We tretched it a little, and had been driving faster and getting lower fuel economy. A few miles before Plainview where we planned to refuel, we started feeling the chugging that would normally signal very low fuel, but it felt different in that it would switch back to normal power and it went on for a number of miles.

When we pulled in to fuel up, I got between 44 and 44.5 gallons into the tank.

So, what is the most volume you have ever put into the tank in a single visit to the pump WITHOUT having run it completey to where the van would not move?

That's cutting it close Greg. Soon you'll be asking how much fuel the filler neck holds.

BTW, how come you don't post your fuel mileage in your signature like you do for your Prius and Insight?
