Toilet Options

Just bit the bullet for a new SMB. Will be asking many questions for the forum. Right now some concerns were raised as to the type of toilet we should select. Evidently we have the option of one of three types, Porta Potty, cassette, and a marine type with black water tank. Would appreciate recommendations or criticisms. Thx.

Re: Toilet Options

After much pooh-poohing ( ), my wife agreed to a PortaPotty in lieu of the trees. Since we had no available storage, SMB made a cover for it and we use it routinely as a seat while working in the kitchen. It's a great addition. We do not use it for#2--that's still a trip to the trees.

Re: Toilet Options

I recommend tho porta too. Don't take it when you don't need it. No fixed plumbing. Take the whole business out to clean it.
Some people assume they smell. With the chemical in them there is no smell whatsoever.

Sounds like a challenge to me. So, where are you camping on your trip?

Re: Toilet Options

For all the reasons stated, I like our porta-potty. If you have floor space to spare or want an indoor shower too, you could consider a permanent toilet. Something to keep in mind is that some insurance companies require the vehicle to have a permanent toilet in order to be insured as an RV. Mine didn't but they weren't my first choice of companies and my first choice wouldn't without a permanent toilet.

Welcome to the club!

Re: Toilet Options

I also went the Porta-Potti route. I'm happy with that decision & don't regret not getting a built in toilet.
