We use a homemade wooden box that is about 23x15x6 as a step. It has a hinged lid and holds the carpet we lay in front of the barn doors as well as a tarp and few other items. We have tried other steps including the one from HD. It did not hold up. We like this one because it adds some storage space and provides a large landing area when stepping out of the van. Our dog appreciates it to. When we are on the road it sits by the barn doors. Our dog stands on it to get a better view out the windows.

Yep, thanks Shenrie.

He mounted it on a sliding bar for use at either door and his van is to high it folds up under the van and doesn't impede clearance.

I am following also!

I currently use a wooden box open on the bottom that holds the BBQ and stove when not used as step. I don’t like how much room it takes up. I looked at all the plastic step stools and all seem unstable especially on unlevel ground.

i didn't get hardware buying the step used so i use a rubber strap, but they come with small bracket(s) that would attach to side of van. there is a handle looking piece that pivots across the top that would slide into these brackets. it pivots to match angle of whatever it is attached to. so the brackets could be easily mounted on the angle of the rocker and still function properly.

My Wife has had both knee's replaced so the right step was important to us as well.
We had 3 criteria a candidate had to meet:
1. Strong & folds up compact
2.Sturdy & Relatively large platform (comes in handy especially at night, and will not tip easily)
3. needed adjustable legs ( to often the ground is not even, so this allows us to maintain a pretty level footprint)
It took us a while to locate something that met all lour criteria:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Admittedly they are more expensive than most, but fit all our requirements.

We also use it as the platform to stand on with the outdoor shower.

Side note: Larrie, Have to say I really like the storage step idea!

I'm not a heavy guy at all but those plastic steps can't handle winter usage, motorcycle boots, and uneven surfaces. I'm sure they are great around the house for wifey or at a smooth grass RV camp but out in the woods they are about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
I second this. Solid step and packs flat enough
