Re: Interesting van on Ebay: armored with CCV top

There are some hilarious details in this listing. I'll start, and y'all chime in:

"NOT for sale to residents of California" though it is listed in California....wha?

...and, I'll have to say that armor would be the least of my concerns while riding around on them 45 cent tires and late 70's rims/hubcaps (3).

I'll stop now, but this really could go on all day

Re: Interesting van on Ebay: armored with CCV top

Weird. A very strange conglomeration of aftermarket modifications, and a lot of miles. Looks like the pasenger-side front end had an encounter or two with some zombies. The pic of the front bumper/fender shows some issues, as does the passenger-side windshield/roofline.

According to the vehicle history report, on "01/15/2013 CA 234,923 State Agency PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION " so it passed CA smog testing/inspection, but it's not for sale to CA residents? Maybe in CA we're not allowed to own scary looking vehicles, just like we can't own scary looking weapons?

Re: Interesting van on Ebay: armored with CCV top

I was thinking, wow, make an impenetrable steel box then put a fiberglass roof on top?! But then I realized that the steel box top is there... and for an immovable floor, that CCV is probably the way to go.

It's ideal for post apoplectic preppers and zombie response units. Also for storing your soon-to-be-illegal firearms in the "attic".

Somebody buy it and put 4x4 under there!

Aaight, can't seem to stop myself... Is the "STREIT" exhaust pipe cover to prevent the zombies from jamming a potato into the pipe, thus killing your engine?

It appears to be located in a typical "nice" suburb, where, as a meanass bored subteen, I would have been the first to pour all variety of stuff into the unlocked DIESEL ONLY fuel tube... don't be SHOUTIN' at ME!

@jage, I'm thinkin' tracks, not 4WD

*dang, gotta get back to work... this is endless*

And a semi-floater as well.

Re: Interesting van on Ebay: armored with CCV top

There are no plates and a temporary tag that expired in January. There might be issues other than smog (title?) that prevent it from being registered in CA. Anyone looking to buy this better get that clarified.

That aside, I still don't really see why anyone would want this. My van is quite heavy enough without a steel box. And despite the fact that I venture into Oakland sometimes, I don't have a real problem with people shooting at me. Perhaps once sequestration hits, the resulting civil unrest will make me re-think this?

I noticed that exhaust pipe shield, guard, whatever it is, too. What also crossed my mind is that the exhaust seemed to be quite small for a diesel.

Re: Interesting van on Ebay: armored with CCV top

See, I knew you guys would have fun with this!

The "Streit" on the tailpipe is apparently the name of the company that armored it. http://apc-company.com/products.php?id=183

I thought the same thing about putting a fiberglass top on an armored vehicle. Huh?

Those 70s-looking wheels are rocking the famed(?) Ford "dog dish" hubcaps. A lot of fleet vans seemed to run them back in the day. I think Ford offered them into the early 2000s (03? 04?).

I will say that in terms of durability, some good old fashoined steel rims are hard to beat.
