15 days left on my ESP
7 years/100K goes by quickly. Only the time went by, I'm still about 82K miles.
Next month, without my 'security blanket' I leave for a long trip (10K+) to Labrador/Newfoundland.
I've got fresh, synthetic oil and all OEM filters are new. I'd get a rabbit's foot, but it really wasn't very lucky for the rabbit, why should it work for me?
Good Michelin tires. Coolant and oil within 8 degrees. No semi-floating axles to break. New brakes.
What else do I need to do to appease the 6.0 gods before I take off?
Mike

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
Got my AAA Premier Card in my wallet.
In '09 they paid $300+ to tow me 80km to Dawson City, YT. I see that as mandatory for anyone who likes to travel in the US and/or Canada.

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
Have a great trip. We went to Newfoundland last year and had a wonderful time. Take lots of warm clothes and rain/wind gear. The people there are very honest and great.

FYI - On returning to Nova Scotia from Newfoundland we had to throw out fresh fruits and vegetables.

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
We were there about 10 years ago. The friendliest people we've ever met!
Last time we had warm weather - except for the ferry from Goose Bay to Newfoundland. It was so cold out on that deck that we had to stay inside.
That ferry is no longer. Now that the road is complete to the south of Labrador and short ferry ride to Newfoundland is in place.
May have to cash in my IRA to pay for diesel for the trip. 10-12,000 miles.

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
I would guess that you fill find about 1/2 to 1/3 of campgrounds open at this time of year. Was not a problem in that the ones that are open are only 10% full or less.
If you are going the "southern" route through the states and plan to cross Lake Chamberlain check the ferry schedules. There are ferries going across but some do not start until summer. We got to were we wanted to cross only to find that the ferry did not start for another 1-2 weeks. Had to head 25(?) miles north to get a ferry landing that was open.
REALLY liked the ferry we took from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia. VERY nice. IF you have a choice of ferries take the WV Atlantic Vision we would recommend it.
Looks like your start/end point is California. Fuel - ugh! How long are you taking? Our two weeks was great but on the short side for seeing things. Felt we needed more time to add Labrador to the trip (2-3 more days maybe). Will you come home overland from Labrador. That would be interesting but for what 1000 miles of only gravel roads??

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
Overland into and through Labrador. Make a stop a Manic 5 - do they have dam tours? Hope the power plant tour is open an Churchill Falls. Maybe a 7-10 days from Baie Comeau to the ferry leaving Labrador. 4-6 weeks on Newfoundland. 3-4 weeks coming/going. 8-11 weeks total.
Probably hit Labrador City around Jun 15-18. It is all free form with no schedule and nothing to stop us from taking more time when we find something interesting. I make it a point to stop early (around 4) and have never had problems finding campsites. Last time we missed Gros Morne Park and this time our route will take us right through it.
I'm sure we will take the trip out to France (St. Pierre et Miquelon) so we can spend some Euros.
On the way out I have to stop and visit with family in Nebraska and Iowa, Sportsmobile in Indiana, friends in Vermont.
Be back home in August some time. Plenty of time to clean the van before we head to Valley of Fire in early October.

Re: 15 days left on my ESP
Sounds like a blast. Are you going to Cape Bretton Island as well? Be sure to drive around it counter clockwise if you do.
